If you plan to attend university or work in an English-speaking country, you may need to take either the TOEFL or IELTS exam. Both exams test for reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills in English and will allow universities or employers know your language competency. You will need to research both tests to know which one is best for you.

TOEFL = Test of English as a Foreign Language

It is an English language proficiency exam produced by the US-based ETS (Education Test Service).

IELTS = International English Language Testing System

It is an exam owned and managed by IDP Australia, The British Council, and Cambridge Examinations.
